    App: Rab Daxman - Fallout 76 (4/0)

    Membership Application
Are you over 18? (You must be 18+ to apply.)
    Yes

What are some games you plan on playing with us?
Fallout 76 right now, but I also play Minecraft and I'm looking at the upcoming WoW Expansion so maybe those.

What is the character or account name you’re joining that game with?
    frostyhardtop

Do you have friends or family in the Unrepentant community? If so what is their forum name?
    StatistikX

So... let's talk! What follows are a bunch of questions that give us a sense of your personality, and give us something to talk about. If your answers are boring or short, we’ll assume you’re boring (and probably short).

Tell us the story of one of the dumbest, funniest or most embarrassing things you've done as an adult.
I was on vacation to one of those big giant mountain water park resort hotels. I was on my way to one of the restaurants. I got turned around so I asked a staff member for directions. He told me to take the elevator down but I was absolutely certain that I was on the bottom floor. I then had an argument with a man who WORKED THERE about where I was and where I was going, as if I knew better than him, the guy I just asked for directions. Not my proudest moment.

What's the coolest job you've ever had? What's the worst? (And why?)
Oof. I've had so many jobs. The coolest job I ever had was working as a baker for a recovery center. That doesn't sound super cool, but I ran a little cafe' for the patients. I offered coffee and cookies, I could chat with them and their family, and everything was free so I didn't have to chase anybody down for money, balance a till, or worry about tips. I worked at my own pace, came up with my own menus, and the place ordered anything I asked for. It was so much creative freedom.

The worst job I ever had was working Tech Support for a small IT company. I was a level 1 Tech, 1.5 at best, and I was running around (our service radius was enormous) all day doing work that was well beyond my skill level. I worked opposite hours to my wife, so there were days she'd be leaving for work just as I was getting home, and I'd be getting home just as she was heading out. And at some point I started getting behind on paychecks. After this dude owed me three months of hourly, gas, and reimbursements, I finally quit (I only let it get that deep because my wife makes good money and my boss was my friend). It took him eight months to finally pay me everything he owed me after I quit. I've never screamed or cried more than during that job.

Name three video games you'll replay no matter how old they get. (And why?)
Diablo 1. There's something so comfortable and satisfying with that "The sanctity of this place has been fouled." Perfect gaming experience from top to bottom.

Earthbound. I've played and beaten that game a dozen times. One of my all time favorite RPGs.

Neverwinter Nights. I think I've bought that game about six times. I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours on roleplay servers.

Tell us about the most annoying person you've ever met, and why he/she annoyed you.
I knew a girl in a gaming community that just had to make everything about her. We couldn't get through a day without her making a scene, and storming off yelling and crying. I don't know if she's the most annoying, but she's the first that comes to mind.

Tell us something cool about yourself that has nothing to do with gaming. (Free hint: responding to your application thread with photo or video supporting evidence is a plus!)
I have a degree in pastry arts. I love to cook in general. My favorite cuisine is classic American comfort food (fried chicken, brownies), but we live in an area with a lot of Indian/Middle Eastern/Asian influence so I've done a lot of experimenting with Indian and Korean foods. I'll share my recipes.

Why choose the Unrepentant Gaming Community over just a regular gaming guild?
My buddy invited me to join so I could have people to play Fallout 76 with. I had never considered or looked at other gaming guilds before. The only other social connection to Fallout 76 I have is the Trading Discord I'm on, and I can get some conversation out of that but it feels very impersonal. I'd love to have people to play with. I'm so lonely.

BONUS: Ask us some questions! We're sure you've got some.
Is this application process really about the answers themselves or just seeing how much time a person is willing to invest in joining?
Does this rigorous application process really weed out a lot of people? Have you had significant negative experiences that warrants this process?
Would it help if I promise to let you guys know when my island has a great purchase price on turnips?

    Almost done!

You enter a cave before starting an adventure. A wise old man tells you "It's dangerous to go alone. Take this." What does he hand you and why?
I mean in Zelda it's a sword. If this is a trivia question, the answer is a sword.

If it's like, a personal thing, then my wise old man would hand me a cell phone.

This guy's my buddy! We did a 2 headed giant magic tournament at ComicCon, and at the last game, negotiated a split prize with the other dudes, so we could do that last game for fun, but I honestly don't remember if we beat them or lost for the fun game.

I don't remember what happened either. I do remember taking home a set of Kamigawa though.

I'm sorry, it seems a lot of apps are going stale right now. I'm not sure if it's because people are finally getting the "go back to work" order in there respective states/countries or what.

So i've been recently getting into Fallout 76. I've always been a huge fan of the Fallout series, but for some reason I was initially reluctant with Fallout 76. Now that I'm playing it I'm enjoying it. So I guess I'll ask when you go to make a decision for Raider/Settler which did you choose and why? Have you played both sides on different characters?

I have a couple of characters with different builds. I've only finished the Wastelanders storyline with one character so far. I went with the Raiders just to see how that story goes (and the character is like a melee, punch you, violence guy so that fit thematically). My next character will go Settlers. I didn't do any of the Settler stuff at all so I'm really looking forward to seeing it. But right now I'm stuck in the Rep/Boullion/Scrip grind and I haven't made time to do any serious development with other characters.

    Welcome to the application process.

To answer your questions about the app process, it is more about the answers themselves, than the effort (although we do like to see a little effort) What we're looking for is enough info to try to get to know the applicants to see if they are a good fit. Your app looks good so far.

The process actually does weed out alot of shit-birds. If you're interested, there are a few particularly entertaining rejected applications stickied in the rejected applications section that illustrate the application process doing its job.

So you like to cook, huh? We like pictures around here, so if you have any food porn to post, by all means...

Yeah so, I like to cook a lot of American comfort food, so just recently I tried to make popcorn chicken for the first time from scratch, and it came out pretty damn near restaurant quality.

After St. Patrick's day I made some corned beef hash with the leftovers with some poached eggs.

Just last week I made a rack of ribs that came out with a very nice crust.

And here's a chicken masala curry I threw together one night.

You had me at recipes. I usually just try to make the stuff another Uey gives me and fail spectacularly. Unfortunately, I don't play FO76. It never really piqued my interest the way the single-player games did.

NWN was fantastic, are you looking forward to Baldur's Gate 3? I've been waiting for a 5th Edition NWN-styled game. I'm really disappointed that throughout all of 4th and 5th edition so far, no games have tried to make 1:1 D&D gameplay.

We do a fair bit of food sharing. Speaking of which, I promised to share the version of char siu I use. I'm relatively new at Indian cooking myself, but have a decent spice background for Persian, and we're still making our own garam masala.
