Which game(s) are you joining us in? Star Trek Online

Are you over 18? (you must be 18+ to apply) Yep.

Are you a member of any other guild in that game? Nope.

What is the name of the character(s) you intend to join with? Ulysses@monkeyx (Obligatory video)

Do you have friends or family in the guild? If so what is their forum name? Afraid not.

Did you read our charter and rules? Which rules translation was your favorite? I have indeed. I was surprised at the blatant advertising for a popular auction site in the Pig Latin version but I guess my favourite was the chinese (ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD).

Do you have an issue using Ventrilo or Mumble? (Being able to at least listen is critical for active participation in PvP/raids) Not really - no issue at all.

Answer the following 4 questions. PROTIP: if your answer is shorter than the question, we will make fun of you for being boring.
1. Tell us the story of the dumbest, funniest or most embarrassing thing you've ever done: Top Three Most Memorably Dumb Things I've Done On Birthdays (specific huh?):

3. At my twenty-first gave the posh birthday cigar my dad got me to the drunk girl opposite me on a pub bench, watch her intake one deep drag and look on in horror and too slow a realisation as she projectile vomited in my face.
2. On a holiday with mates for my twenty-sixth (July baby) in Portugal driving a hired car without 4x drive across sandy dunes coming back from the beach at an ungodly speed to catch flight later that afternoon, getting stuck and spending the rest of the day trying to dig the car out. Just made the flight but my poor friend sat next to me suffers horrible heat exhaustion and the smell of dry roasted peanuts (yes dry roasted peanuts!) seems to trigger something because she turns to me green as an olive and says "I don't feel well" before proceeding to vomit all over my shirt and trousers, leaving a smell that would linger the entire flight home.
1. Skip forward to my 30th birthday and in a recently new relationship, not feeling up for a big bash or anything, just some mates having a drink and some food round our place in Barca. What could possibly go wrong? Well my friend, a Texan cocktail master, makes the most delicious and seemingly unalcolohic margaritas known to man or beast. I'll skip the foreplay and skip to the end... new girlfriend drinks too many as do I, dinner is served, she vomits and smell sets off my stomach and I'm sick as a dog too. Happy Birthday. The End.

Birthdays - an excuse for people to vomit on me!

2. What is your Zombie Plan? I can't tell you my plan because what happens if you get zombiefied and use this knowledge against me? Which I'm sorry to say is fairly likely to happen after all. In fact, I'm suspicious you would even ask this! Clearly you're planning a zombie apocalypse and plan to use the knowledge gathered on these forums to further your evil agenda. I'm on to you buddy.

Seriously, though. A good zombie plan is never shared with everyone. Three things you must know in such dire circumstances.

1. Where to hide. Somewhere noone else knows about is best.
2. Where to find food other than the obvious zombie infested local supermarket.
3. How to keep yourself entertained when you're the last human survivor.

Remember folks, zombies don't kill people - boredom and social isolation does. OK and the zombies.

3. Tell us something cool about yourself that has nothing to do with gaming: Back when I worked for Viacom Europe (web development) I used to get myself attached to cool shindigs with musicos I admired or thought would be a laugh with. Despite trying to be cool about it of course, I always get flustered and whatnot around them. Almost easier when its someone you don't necessarily think is god. Anyway, best drinking partner: Robbie Williams without a doubt. Just for the lovely ladies that would come by but also because he was a sound bloke really. Most interesting conversation: Jarvis Cocker (mostly talked about the Iranian Revolution of 1979... as I was born in teheran when it was going on).

4. If you were us, why would you vote you into The U? 'Cos you can never have too many hairy monkeys in a barrel when you're trying to build a rocket ship to the moon powered by the broken promises made to six year olds? Err... sorry... think this is more difficult than applying for a job you know? Cos there you can BS if you need to and be all pushy and whatnot happy in the knowledge you're going to get paid and can pick up the skills you need on the job. So what if you've never learned sanskrit to a fluent level... and the last time you went skydiving (top three hobby on my CV) was 6 years ago... what are the chances the middle-aged tubby guy is going to ask you to jump out of a plane anyway?

And that's how I got fired from the Parachute Regiment on my third day.

Quick survey! We will totally judge you by the answers you give below:
• Favorite Type of Music: Don't you just hate people that say "Everything" or "A bit of this and that"? I mean it either means they've got zero musical taste whatsoever and you could put that annoying compilation CD they play in some department stores on repeat all the live long day and they'd be happy! Anyway, my answer to this question is a mixture of 90s grunge (e.g. nirvana), 50s and 60s rock'n'roll (e.g. beatles, kinks), '70s metal (e.g. zeppelin), '90s and '00s electronic and indie. I've also got a real thing for distinctive female vocals whatever the genre. And good lyrics. I loves me lyrics. And the bass hook matters. I'm more an album person than a "type of music" person though.
• Favorite Movie: Star Wars V, Godfather II, A Few Good Men, Dr. Strangelove (seriously watch this if not done so already! comic genius). Nothing too controversial I know but its hard picking favorites when so many good ones out there. Guess these are the ones I would insist any child of mine must watch!
• Favorite Book: Argh. How can I choose? I suppose using the "child of mine" logic above on this I would actually choose the Sandman graphic novels. Neil Gaiman is one of my favourite all time authors.
• Favorite Non MMO Game: Kotor I & II, Swords of the Stars, Europa Universalis III.

Wow! That's alot of vomit stories. I don't know whether to laugh hysterically or feel bad for you.

I would imagine Robbie Williams would be a pretty cool guy to hang with. In his performances and interviews, he seems confident with no touch of arrogance.

Have you played any MMO's besides STO?

Other MMOs: I used to play SWG before the first dreadful combat update, WoW before the first expansion (in a pretty good EU raiding guild called Valhalla if anyone knows it). I guess after the full-time job that raiding WoW became and I had to take a break from the whole MMO thing for a long while so STO is the first one in a long while I've played. I guess my plan not to play anymore MMOs until the Old Republic comes out didn't pan out :)

Which do you prefer: ground or space combat? How come?

Bear in mind I've played PvE with the exception of about 5 minutes of PvP... I've found ship combat more tactically rich and fleet engagements particularly fun but I had my first go at a real multiplayer ground combat with a random PuG last night.... and it was hectic fun. My toon is an engineer with a turrent / medical generator kit and it was good to have to use my full arsenal of tools in a team environment.

I'm still in "learning mode" though so too early to say which I really prefer :)

Can it be both?

App looks good, join the Unrepentant channel ingame and run with us. The faster we get to know you, the faster you'll get a decision. While we are pretty damned casual and more about having a laugh than being ubergamers, you'll find some of us to be rather helpful should you want to learn shit.

Also, Dr. Strangelove FTW. You can't fight in here, this is the War Room!

Be really tough to get better comedy than with Dr. Strangelove. And yea I agree, comic genius. Slim Pickens rules. If you have a Doomsday device, you really do have to let someone know...I love that logic...Hope to see you in game.

Another quality app from a guy who uses Bloke, Pub and Boot as regular speech. :D

Great stories, vomit and all. I need to party with you.

Look forward to seeing you in game.

Well, don't be scared to ask these guys (not me) questions. They have voluminous amounts of knowledge and can quickly point you in the right direction.

I am always in the learning phase, and though most will tell you that there is no definite right way to play and play your toon how you like there also exists a wrong way. I remember the first time I learned that, I mentioned that my Boff wasn't very good at using his shield generator after he blocked me off in a hallway - I received about 4 answers in Guild chat along the lines of "why do you hate yourself? don't give Boffs a shield generator"

So absolutely sponge up some of their info - just be careful who/what you sponge.

Indeed...

There's some STO apps that have been lingering here for a while and we're gonna have to do something about it soon...

Shoot the shit, make fun of us, make fun of yourself, get drunk and embarrass yourself. Whatever. Jump into a discussion in the Thirsty Troll Tavern. Just show us that you're interested in our little house of crazy and that you can fit in here.

Did you get a cadet invite? I can't recall seeing you on the fleet roster. Then again, I've been grinding my newest toon and have been relatively unobservant to such nuances.

Well it is good to chat us up here, too. There are some fun things you can see in the Tavern. Once you get in the fleet full time, there is a section dedicated to STO, as you prolly guessed, and there are quite of few cool things to check out.

Sssshhh we've told you not to go around telling people that.

*clears throat*
We have no comment as to the existence of a vulcan love slave holo program rental service within the bowels of this site. Nor will we confirm the orion/trill escort service.

Speaking of which, Orions? or Trill?

Alright chaps - I see what you mean now :)

Trill or Orions you ask.. a difficult one. In favour of the Trill you have the sexy one from DS9 but then there's the whole icky old man living under the skin... and on the other side the Orions you have green skin. I'm not sure I could take a verse or two about "it ain't easy being green" every time I hurt her feelings.

Me? I like me Bajorans.

On a completely unrelated note I watched the Adjustment Bureau and without giving away the premise: DO NOT WANT. The Brit sounding girl in it was certainly lovely and all, and the bloke wasn't the most terrible but man talk about disappointing premise.

Seen the TOR guild sign ups opened up?

Back on STO... As I randomly blurted out on chat already I really enjoyed the two missions with the Gateway system, Mira Paris and time travel (fighting alongside the USS Enterprise) yesterday afternoon and then after the movie I played the Doomsday machine episode. Really felt like a good couple of Star Trek episodes those.

I guess we all play for different reasons but sometimes I feel with MMOs I feel like a hamster in a cage if you get what I mean... so I appreciate in STO the fact the "grind" is much more varied but it was really good to do a couple of missions that felt like proper stories. So here's hoping there's more of that kind of content.
