Are you over 18? (You must be 18+ to apply.)
Yes

What are some games you plan on playing with us?
Warframe! Happy to play anything for socials

What is the character or account name you’re joining that game with?
GamingSnob

Do you have friends or family in the Unrepentant community? If so what is their forum name?
Moriarty got me into Warframe; suggested I come here

So... let's talk! What follows are a bunch of questions that give us a sense of your personality, and give us something to talk about. If your answers are boring or short, we’ll assume you’re boring (and probably short).

Tell us the story of one of the dumbest, funniest or most embarrassing things you've done as an adult.
Was making a valentine's day cake for my-then girlfriend. It was heart-shaped, multi-layered, and had this homemade white/dark swirl ganache action going on for the top. It was slick. My last task before frosting was cutting a final layer - which then went far into my thumb. Sexy Valentine's cake time turned into Emergency Room stitches time.

Came home and found out the cat actually likes to eat frosting from the container. Her tummy didn't like it and had random runny poo drops all the following day.

Not sure I could have done better.

What's the coolest job you've ever had? What's the worst? (And why?)
Funnest: miniature golf assistant manager during a college summer. Course was challenging, never got too crowded, lots of time to practice windmill putting at the beach.

Worst: Computer counselor during said in-session college years, mainly due to my boss, who had so sense of humor. You'd think he'd figure out the reason his PC kept booting into a commodore 64 emulator was due to the boot disk he kept not ejecting. Strangely was not into being pranked.

Name three video games you'll replay no matter how old they get. (And why?)
Mass Effect 3 - the entire thing was the end to the trilogy. I even liked the last 5 minutes of the game. Fabulous characterization and, if you wanted to keep doing side quests, the rabbit hole went pretty far.

Some version of Civilization - Probably IV since I logged the most time on it. A solid 4X game of any kind, really.

I'm a Blizzard fanboy, so Hearthstone or WoW should be the third. Great games.

Tell us about the most annoying person you've ever met, and why he/she annoyed you.
Aformentioned manager at computer counselor job. I have problems with those who want to be treated better/differently, or think themselves important. Even as I got older and effectively became a manager of a computer helpdesk later in life, I remembered to stay humble and be thankful for the cool people who worked there.

Tell us something cool about yourself that has nothing to do with gaming. (Free hint: responding to your application thread with photo or video supporting evidence is a plus!)
I like to cook - that valentine's cake wasn't a one-time thing. ;) If I didn't have a technology career, I'd like to be a chef.

I do tend to cook dinners now for my wife and 13-year-old daughter as opposed to baking things. They're better than I am at baking anyways, so I think we're all better off.

Why choose the Unrepentant Gaming Community over just a regular gaming guild?
Moriarty talked y'all up as a fun group of adults who minimize drama. I don't have tons of time to play (read up: job, family, etc), so when I do I'd like quality time with cool people to play with.

BONUS: Ask us some questions! We're sure you've got some.
I hear you use mumble? Have the 2000s called and asked for their voip server back? (I kid, I kid...)

Almost done!

You enter a cave before starting an adventure. A wise old man tells you "It's dangerous to go alone. Take this." What does he hand you and why?
A teriyaki chicken rice bowl. An adventurer's gotta eat.

I will offer my support of this candidate, for obvious reasons, since I pretty much was a walking advert for the past couple weeks after GS spied me playing Warframe on Steam and said "what's all this then", or something to that effect. He is a good guy, we have played many board games IRL and even tried to get a mythic dungeon wow group going until it fell apart because adults are sometimes a pain in the butt to schedule proper gaming time.

Welcome to the app process; I've only played a little warframe when I was on a break from DDO so I'll leave others to talk about the guild presence in that game.

However as you mention you are up for anything game wise for socialising then you have definitely come to the right place - we play a wide range of games and you should always find some folks around in mumble or discord. Keep active in this thread, use voice chat and in game and in no time at all (maybe a couple of weeks?) you'll be good to go. You need 4 YES votes to get in or 3 NO votes to get rejected - the great majority of NO votes come from inactivity so let us know if RL is going to get in the way.

I liked your cake story - have you got any pics of your creations?

Oh and try and get an avatar - we don't like the white silhouette against an off white background - lacks personality.

Snob, welcome to the app process. We will go gentle, and at least I will offer lotion. Because ChefBourdain is a gentleman.

What kind of stuff are you into, outside of gaming? Movies, music, books, sports, yardwork, trucks, delicious alcohol, etc? I've largely become a stereotypical yard cutting midwestern family man now, but I was "hip" and "with it" back in the day. I love Sci-Fi and animation, but I'm also watching a lot of British crime dramas recently. Apparently people get murdered in quaint seaside towns with alarming regularity.

I'm surprised i haven't done more damage to myself with knives. I typically go for the burns instead. What foods or styles do you enjoy cooking the most? I used to dabble in the kitchen, but then I married a superior cook and just cook eggs on weekends now.

Enjoy the application process! It is awesome like slamming a Mountain Dew and then flipping a semi truck over a train!

Wait, so you chop yourself up for the sake of mealcraft on a regular basis? And you have a family of apparent cannibals that are willing to consume your cleavings and scrapings?! I'm not sure if I'm disgusted or impressed.

It may come as no surprise that a number of members of this community are enthusiastic about various aspects of the preparation and/or consumption of food, regardless of just how locally sourced it may be. You may win points with them if you can describe a favorite creation in some manner that induces salivation. Make no mistake: I am making no requests on their behalf. I merely serve to provide an obvious conversational hook.

Strangely enough, I didn't think to stop and take pictures on the way to get stitches. That would have been a funnier story though.

I'll work on the Avatar. I had thought perhaps it would import my Steam one since I logged in through Steam, but alas...

(trying to do fancy stuff in the quick reply panel; we'll see how that works)

Moriarty already mentioned I'm a big boardgame fan. I'm a father of a 13yo daughter who just recently, after years of resistance, decided she'd start watching Marvel movies, so we've started that journey. (which is longer than I thought; there were over a dozen to see before we get current. I think we're currently on Thor: The Dark World). There's also a Studio Ghibli "festival" going on where local theaters show one movie a month on the big screen, and we're both big fans of that. I think Nausicaa is the next one up this month.

I'm surprised i haven't done more damage to myself with knives. I typically go for the burns instead. What foods or styles do you enjoy cooking the most? I used to dabble in the kitchen, but then I married a superior cook and just cook eggs on weekends now.
I prefer trying new cuisines and/or going after new dishes or experiences. Probably due to burnout of making house favorites for so long. I've been working on a 2-hour mole recipe; traditional mole takes something like 30 ingredients and a couple of days to make. As a parent I don't have time for that crap ;) so I've been working on what really are the "essential" ingredients to make something that tastes like semi-authentic and still can be done in an afternoon.

Board games? You have my interest...what's on your must play list?
Well, that's an easy pic:

Moriarty has me beat on gaming bookcases, but I'm trying. I'd say the go-to in there currently are:
- Splendor
- Pandemic: Legacy (recently finished up season one)
- Power Grid when we have more than an hour to play
- Takenoko

The ping pong table gets a fair amount of use too. We keep the middle of the room clear for that and for the HTC Vive VR setup that is stored in that secretary on the bottom right. you can make out one of its lighthouses on top of the right-most bookcase.

Which also reminds me: the avatar name. So yeah, the most "traditional" game in the bookcases that pops out is Parcheesi. Most of my friends know I'm a big gamer, and some are better with that than others. I had a friend once, when I asked how her weekend was, tell me "We hosted a gaming party for a few friends and played Yahtzee all evening. Don't look at me like that, you know you wouldn't have been happy playing for long. You are a bit of a gaming snob, after all."

... the name kind of stuck. It was appropriate too. ;)

Gaming Snob got an invite to the Warframe guild. He did some material runs with guildies so he could get his clan key started. Questions were asked, Mumble PTT keys were set, and good times to be had.

That's cool that you can have something in common with your daughter. It's ESPECIALLY COOL that she's liking the Marvel movies. I have a couple teenagers here (both boys), who we're raising to move out and be big grown adults in a few years. They are both on opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to likes/dislikes. One is big into music, the other basketball. They can both agree on bugging the shiz out of me though :)

Liking this app so far, the avatar looks very happy.

I didn't necessarily mean the blood stained cake, I thought that you may have made other cakes...

Like the gaming room; I have a 8 feet square sand table in the cellar for war games...

Played a bit of Warframe with Gaming Snob, he seems like a nice guy and I enjoyed running around with him; however briefly it was.

It was indeed fun. Thanks for dragging my n00b butt through the Archwing questline! I have lots of things baking in the foundry now.

Say hello to the newest member of the Snob household: Hadron.

With all the cat shelters overcrowded in the Central/Southern Texas area due to Harvey, we thought we'd find this guy a home - ours. Initial reports are that he's loving, adventurous, and sassy. He'll fit right in.

Basically, you play some games with our members and then they post here about how kewl you are, and then they blow me, and then the Yes votes start pouring in.

Dozam...you know what you have to do. *shows a bit of skin through bathrobe gap*

(days to weeks, depending on the cadence and feedback given and such)

(and the quality of the members blowing me)

(Dozam may have to do it twice)

(BUT IT IS A PRIVILEGE, NOT A MERE OBLIGATION)
