Quick about me before I get into the official app: I've played WoW for 3 years now, I enjoy it and I'm an alt-a-holic. I downloaded the STO demo about a 2 weeks ago (when I purchased a computer that could run it). I immediately got overwhelmed by the experience, and realized how much I rely on my WoW Guildies to help me, but none of them play STO. So I went to the STO fleet forums to find a home and you wooed me with Brannigan's Law, the lure of velour is just too strong.

Also, I'm submitting this application at work during my lunch break, I'll be able to participate in forum discussion, but I won't be able to talk in game until I get home tonight.

Which game(s) are you joining us in? Star Trek Online

Are you over 18? (you must be 18+ to apply) Yes, turning 30 in Feb.

Are you a member of any other guild in that game? None

What is the name of the character(s) you intend to join with? I just started STO, my toon is Merrkin (random name generated, I didnít pick it, but I kept it). Merrkin is a tactical officer; Iím not sure if that suits my playstyle yet.

Do you have friends or family in the guild? If so what is their forum name? I donít have anyone in the guild I know.

Did you read our charter and rules? Which rules translation was your favorite? Yes, I read them. I enjoyed the pig latin one, only because Iím a dork that never understood what pig latin was until high school. I literally thought it was a dead language until I made a fool of myself in front of friends.

Do you have an issue using Ventrilo? (Being able to at least listen is critical for active participation in PvP/raids) I can use vent. I usually am quiet on it, but I have been known to get chatty and tell stories between pulls after a few beers.

Answer the following 4 questions. PROTIP: if your answer is shorter than the question, we will make fun of you for being boring.
    1. Tell us the story of the dumbest, funniest or most embarrassing thing you've ever done: I totaled 3 cars in 15 mintues (and only owned 2 of them). My first car was a 15 year old 83 Mazda GLC (rebadged Ford Escort hatchback). It had a problem where it would burn through oil if you drove it over 55-60, but was OK below that. I took that as a challenge and tried to keep it pegged at 55 all the time, including on the roads near my home. Did I mention that half of my trip home from school was on dirt roads, cause thatís kinda important. Going 55 into 25mph corner, I hit some gravel and rolled over into the ditch in front of someoneís home. I was 100% OK, got out and used the phone at the house I rolled in front of to call my dad. I was about 3 miles from my home. My dad came and surveyed the damage; he, I, and a passerby rolled the car out of the ditch back on its wheels, and my dad gave me the keys to his truck to go get a tow chain to pull the car home (this was rural Georgia, the no-harm/no-foul rule meant I didnít have to call the police or report the accident if I could get it home before they saw it). I hopped in the truck and headed home; .75 miles from my home, a woman ran a stop sign and I T-boned her car (coincidentally was a newer model (92 ish) Ford Escort hatchback). My dadís truck was a í79 F-150, so the Escort was pretty much bent into a U-shape. Everyone was ok (except my dad who was not in a good mood at that point).
    2. What is your Zombie Plan? Ugg, I have a love/hate relationship with zombies. I enjoy watching zombie movies, but I have to limit myself watching them because they give me night terrors for days, sometimes weeks, after watching them. And I donít mean nightmares Ė I mean I wake up screaming, and then have to stay up all night or sleep with the lights on. And sadly, that is no joke. My plan would probably be to stay in my home and weather the zombie apocalypse Ė Iím sure the government wonít mind saving me if I get on my roof and try to flag down passing helicopters like Katrina victims.
    3. Tell us something cool about yourself that has nothing to do with gaming: I canít think of one epic demonstration of my coolness, but here are a few random musings about me. Despite my ignorance of pig latin, I was valedictorian at my high school. That is cool to me, but probably not you. Probably the most interesting thing about me is that I donít fit peopleís perceptions when they first meet me. Iím a huge guy (6í4, 290), with dark, scary looking features. I own a Miata and listen to techno (often while driving the Miata). The car is a tight fit (giggity) but a hoot to drive. Also, I have a shelter mutt I adopted 6 years ago named Spicy McHaggis. He is probably the coolest thing about me Ė heís a great dog and knew sit and stay the day I picked him up.
    4. If you were us, why would you vote you into The U? Iím a team player. In WoW, I play a healer; I havenít quite found that groove in STO (but again, I just started playing). Iím fun to chat with; I donít really try to be funny, but I end up getting myself in a position of being the butt of the joke Ė so you could vote me in to be the foil if nothing else.

Quick survey! We will totally judge you by the answers you give below:
ē Favorite Type of Music: Techno/dance. I also enjoy Deathmetal (of all things). Iíve actually purchased the soundtrack to seasons 1&2 of Metalocalypse, and totally rock out to those.
ē Favorite Movie: Donnie Darko is my favorite. I also really like Galaxy Quest, it is very under appreciated.
ē Favorite Book: Me Talk Pretty One Day. First book that I can remember making me laugh out loud. I also like Chuck Palahniuk books, but his latest ones seem to focus on being gross more than being smart.
ē Favorite Non MMO Game: Hello Kitty Adventure Island. I also enjoy Mario Kart for my DS. I bought StarCraft 2: itís pretty, but the single player just doesnít feel compelling. I never really cared if Raynor gets caught/killed.

We care a lot more about community around here than individual games, and we care more about people than their characters. There's a small bit of the "looking for a raid guild" vibe in your app--to address that, do you expect you'd play with us in another games beyond STO? Do you see yourself rolling with our WoW guys over there, or is your current guild one you expect to stick with there?

I appreciate the honesty on the zombie question, though I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've seen someone's plan actually be to cower in fear. I trust you won't be offended if we use you for bait when the Zombie apocalypse happens?

I'm happy with my WoW guild, Refugees of Luclin on Elune, although I think that's the same server as the Unrepentant crew. I would, however, welcome a chance to expand my in game friends with new folks and help if you need me, but RoL was founded and is run by guys I went to college with. They're great guys and we're like a family - I'm looking for that kind of camaraderie in STO. The post in the STO fleet forum reminded me very much of the kind of atmosphere I enjoy playing in.

Zombies - you know in scary movies you always have that one person that makes noise and gives away the groups position to the monster? I'm sure my screeching and whimpering will make me excellent bait, unfortunately, it will probably be before you're in position and we'll all get infected. I apologize in advance.

Refugees of Luclin? Displaced EQ guild?
Look, I'm not saying elf chicks are sluts, but you never see any half dwarves or half gnomes, do you?

The founders were, but I never played EQ. But that is where the name came from originally.

Fair enough. It's not required or anything, we're fine with an open relationship.

If that's all you're ready to commit to.

    You bastard.

    Make your own fucking sandwich.

If you don't know why I'm mad I'm not going to tell you.

Make sure you get in the Unrepentant channel and get a cadet invite, and keep up with the dialogue here and there. You ought to go ahead and yak at some of the U guys on Elune as well, they can post feedback in here as well as anyone.

I dunno, with that physical description you would make a pretty formidable zombie yourself.

I love the car story. I was in something like 15 wrecks when I was a teenager but, except for one occasion, I was the passenger. My best friend was always making stupid things happen. Not that i'm calling you stupid, but your story brought back many memories.

You didn't fully answer a follow up. Are you looking for a raiding guild? If so, that's not really who we are, but between all of us there's a lot of knowledge and adult humor to be found as well as game play. I'm fairly new to the fleet myself but everyone I've encountered is top notch.

I took it as a question of whether I'm looking to raid in WoW. That's my first (and really only) experience in MMO's, so that's where my mind defaulted.

For STO, no. I'm looking for a social guild (or fleet, I'm not sure what the accepted nomenclature is). I'm looking for good times and to have my noob questions answered occasionally. Actually, my questions may be frequent at first, STO sorta has me overwhelmed at the moment. I had a great time in the demo (enough to purchase the game), but I just felt like I was way over my head. Once I get my bearings and figure out how to play a bit, I hope to contribute and help others.

Also, I'm not a Min/Max type of person. Except with beer. I want the max taste for the min price.

Let me clarify, I'd love to find friends that play both, but my goal with this application isn't to weasel my way into your WoW guild. If you guys end up liking me, and need a healer (or an undergeared dps), I would love to fill a pug spot for ya (choosing the known evil, etc), but I absolutely don't expect a raid spot or anything.

Will do! I'll do it when I get home tonight.

There's no weaseling involved. We only have one [s:2aa2hjmp]guild[/s:2aa2hjmp]community. You're applying under STO, so STO officers will vote on you, but if we let you in, you're a member everywhere whether you use it or not. Forever. In the same way, if someone logs into STO and is already a U member in WoW, they are in the fleet immediately.

I don't play WoW so I'm not 100% clear on how their raid spots are allocated over there but that's not the point. As far as STO, we run STFs every day most weeks, but the game being what it is they're typically first come first serve and not planned more than a few hours in advance.

Hysterical Emrys - thanks to both you and Merrkin. Freakin' horrible day, and I need that laugh.

Anyway - we are getting some pretty decent apps in here. That you think a rescue mutt is cool definitely earns points in my book under "would you go drinking with this person"

So, get in Vent. Make your own fucking sandwich, and get me one of those max tastes beer, bitch...and sure we can hook you up in a cool fleet for STO and even cooler community. Except for FoulSoul. He wears wife-beaters...def. not cool....but he tries.
